Representative Doug Broxson (District 1) has co-sponsored House Bill 79, a bill proposed again this year by Representative Marti Coley, to repeal the law requiring state mandated septic tank inspections. Rep. Broxson co-sponsored this same legislation during the 2011 legislative session. That bill had a great deal of support in the House, but did not pass through the Senate before session ended. The current law requires state wide septic tank inspections every five years at the home owner’s expense. Representative Broxson believes this regulation is excessive and over-reaching. “This is an issue that the counties need to resolve locally, the state doesn’t need to dictate a solution.” Broxson states, “The local governments can investigate this matter and determine if there are any pollution problems in their county.”
