Senator Greg Evers on The Supreme Court’s Decision To Uphold The Federal Health Care Law

Baker, Fla. –  Senator Greg Evers today released the following statement regarding the United States Supreme Court’s 5:4 decision to uphold the federal health care law.
 
“I am stunned and angry that politics prevailed over our Constitution in today's shocking Supreme Court decision upholding the federal health care law. In affirming the individual mandate, the Supreme Court has allowed the federal government to intrude upon what is perhaps our most fundamental freedom  - our right to make personal choices on health care for our own bodies and our right to spend our money as we choose.   The Court agreeing to the nationalization of health care by the federal government violates the sovereignty of the State of Florida to establish health care policies tailored to the unique needs and population of Floridians. 
“ObamaCare's demand that Florida expand its Medicaid budget by billions of Florida tax dollars is a clear attempt to force Washington's irresponsible economic policies onto our state.   While I commend the Court's removal of the extortion terms that would force a state out of Medicaid if the state refused to succumb to this Medicaid expansion, I am extremely disappointed that the Court was unwilling to expose and overturn the tax increase tied to the individual mandate.

“Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in his dissenting opinion on behalf of the Justices in disagreement with today's ruling:  'In our view, the entire Act before us is invalid in its entirety.'  Justice Kennedy's words, in my mind, were also written on behalf of myself, my family and my constituents; on behalf of the sovereignty of the State of Florida; on behalf of our God-given inalienable rights; on behalf of the Constitution and on behalf of freedom itself. 
 
“It is critical that we as citizens now speak for ourselves in voices clear, loud and strong in November and beyond. You have my commitment that I will work as hard as I can to right this terrible wrong and urge Congress to repeal ObamaCare and its threat on our fundamental freedom as individuals and economic freedom as a nation.”

I want to invite all of you to join me and Representative Clay Ford at the intersection of Cervantes Street and North Hayne Street in Pensacola this coming Tuesday, June 19, at 3 p.m. CST, for the dedicating and renaming of the Cervantes Street Overpass Bridge as the “Joyce Webb Nobles Bridge.” We will be honoring this remarkable woman who has called Pensacola her home for the past 87 years and has been a dedicated and active member of her community throughout her lifetime. She had the opportunity to cut the ribbon at the bridge’s original opening in 1935, and then again at its reopening in 2005 after it had been closed while the original wooden bridge was replaced with its current concrete structure.

Greg Evers Qualifies by Petition for State Senate

With more than 1,600 folks who signed a petition to place me on the ballot for the new Senate District 2 seat, I am excited to announce that I have officially qualified by petition for the August 14th primary. I am overwhelmed by the outpour of support that my neighbors have shown for my campaign, and I can’t wait to get out there and continue my quest to be the next Senator of our great Northwest Florida communities!

Open House in Walnut Hill Sees Close to 800 Job Applicants

Close to 800 people came out to the open house in Walnut Hill on Tuesday, to apply for the open positions at the new Walnut Hill Crude Oil Transfer Station. I commend Workforce Escarosa for their assistance in the recruitment process, and the best of luck to all the folks who applied! Job openings at the new transfer station are just another example of how, through conservative efforts to free up businesses and make our communities more appealing to industry leaders, we will continue to create more opportunities for our friends and neighbors to get jobs. New Deepwater Horizon Claims Office Opens in Pensacola

A new office to handle claims stemming from the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill has opened at 7555 West U.S. 98 in Pensacola. Office hours are Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. As a reminder, claims can also be filed through the center's office at www.deepwaterhorizoneconomicsettlement.com.
