Tallahassee, Fla. - Today HB 1175 Controlled Substances by Representative Clay Ingram (R-Pensacola) passed the Florida Senate. The bill adds dozens of chemical variations of synthetic cannabinoids and psychoactive bath salts to the list of Schedule I controlled substances.
“This bill will literally save the lives of people in our communities,” Representative Ingram said. “This problem has been growing all too quickly. We made a firm stand last year in banning these substances, but creative chemists have gotten around the intent of the Legislature. This bill will keep these toxic substances off the shelves.”
Both Chambers of the Legislature agreed to push up the effective date of the prohibition to immediately after being signed into law by the Governor, indicating the escalating problem that these dangerous synthetic drugs present.
“This legislation will help us stay ahead of the drug manufacturers who are attempting to skirt Florida law and threaten the lives of our citizens,” stated Attorney General Pam Bondi. “I applaud Representative Ingram and the entire Florida Legislature for passing a bill that will save lives.”
The bill will now be enrolled and sent to the Governor to be signed into law.
